about

The emotional diversity of the year that gave birth to Chaos is reflected in the range of styles and moods encompassed in the album: two super-pop radio hits (Nothing to Lose and Chaos), a classic country-folk torch song (Winter), a country-pop earworm (Sound of The City), a funk ballad (Black), and a femme fatale blues (Fool), reveal an eclectic songwriter whose voice is haunting enough to bring six contrastive pieces together into a coherent work.

After a successful career in Brazil, where she had two number one hits for 32 consecutive weeks, Paula Marchesini came to the East Coast in 2010 for a graduate program in Philosophy. The months that followed led to the end of a 10-year-long romance with her teenage sweetheart, songwriter Apoena, and to a period of intense romantic liaisons and musical rebirth.

Chaos is the mesmerizing mosaic that came out of that turbulent period. Throughout the album, one senses that the writer survived the storm, that she found joy and strength in it, and that her music is, among other things, a cry to inspire the listener to do the same.
